A client running 3CX version 10 mentioned that no one was seeing voicemail indicators or getting voicemail notifications via email. I recalled that these are “paid” version features. Sure enough, his license was no longer activated. After re-activating the license, voicemail notification started working again. But why did the license become unregistered? I did a little research and found and with some additional info. As best I can tell, 3CX checks its license whenever the services are restarted, including at every server boot.

3CX Phone System Professional Edition. Professional Edition is a license key upgrade to your existing 3CX Phone System, a software-based IP PBX. THIS PRODUCT IS A FULL 3CX PHONE SYSTEM WITH THE ADDITION OF THE 3CX CALL CENTER MODULE. If you are already running 3CX Phone System, you just need to purchase the 3CX Professional Upgrade.

The IP address and network card address (MAC address) of your server are stored with the license on the 3CX license server. If the IP or MAC address has changed since the last time, 3CX de-activates. Implications: • If the 3CX license server is down, your license will de-activate. Check this by going to. • Your server must have network access at reboot, and the firewall must allow connections to the 3CX licensing server.

• If you server does not have a fixed IP address, 3CX will lose activation whenever the IP address changes. • If the server has two network cards, it might lose activation because it might register from one card, then use the other card when checking the license after a reboot. You can re-activate your license by logging in to your 3CX server and going to Settings > Activate License. A Little Bit Deactivated At first I thought that deactivation meant that 3CX reverts to the Free license mode. But when I manually reverted to the Free license, I saw this under Settings > Activate License: and when I tried to use CRM dialing with MyPhone, MyPhone displayed this message: The customer wasn’t seeing either of those issues. He basically re-typed the same license that was already displayed, and his message waiting indicators (MWI) started working again.

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade the 3CX v12.5 to v15.5 and we are doing a test upgrade in our organisation as of now. I'm trying to restore the backup that we took from our Production server(v12.5) on the test system(v15.5), but during the backup process it was asking for the Licence Key.

Karta napryazhenij usilitelya amfiton. But the issue is that, the backup that we are using have the Licence key and FQDN of production server. We have 2 Licence Key's available (First - Production server, Second - Test server) and I would like to know what will happen if I provide the Second Licence Key we have with us. We wont be able to provide the licence Key of the Production server to the test system. If I provide the 2nd licence Key, will the test server overwrite the first licence Key with this one or will it be the First one that gets activated. I cant take any risks with this as if something goes wrong, then it will effect whole operations. Can someone provide me some information about this? Guessing the license keys are registering back to 3CX and are tied to MAC address of the hardware or VM.

If you restore to another box or a different hypervisor the MAC will change and break your registration as being detected as pirated. On my commercial asterisk based system the system locks down within 30 minutes of a MAC address change and I have to call support and get them to release it. Typically, for sandbox projects where you have a couple keys, you follow the process you described.

The issue is that you don't normally jump versions. Most systems will break in unpredictable ways if you attempt to restore a different version of the software over an existing one. Also, be aware that backups of phone systems are not like a backup of a computer OS unless you are using third party disk imaging. Amy (3CX) Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for providing the information. Also, will this remove the FQDN information from the backup? Or is it even possible to separate Licence Key from FQDN?
